This method determines ultimate aerobic biodegradability of organic polymer under controlled compositing conditions by measurement of the amount of carbon dioxide evolved and the degree of disintegration of the plastic at the end of test. This method is designed to stimulate typical aerobic composting conditions for the organic fraction of solid mixed municipal waste. The test material is exposed to an inoculum which is derived from compost.
APPARATUS CONSIST OF
Composting Bio-reactor | Made of borosilicate glass with provision of air, purge, wetting of in inoculum mixture evolved CO2 outlet system. |
Composting Chamber | Made of S.S., Accomodates multiple rows of bioreactors. Inlet & outlet arrangement for gases. Fitted with temperature measure & control system and time totalizer. |
Air supply system | Air supply, This is consist of air drying and CO2 absorbing columns, flow meter & required turbines. |
Carbon dioxide absorbers | Made of borosilicate glass in triplicate with sampling arrangement. |
